Dog Training
My training philosophy is to strengthen the bond between you and your dog for a better relationship and transparent communication. No matter the age or breed, any dog can learn with the right assistance and methods.
Newman's PAWsitive Pups uses positive reinforcement techniques. The goal of positive reinforcement dog training is to make your dog want to work with you using a key signal (such as "yes" or "good dog") to reward desired behaviors. This type of training creates a clear line of communication between you and your dog and is fun for the whole family to participate in - even young children!
About Me:
After attending Colorado State University and earning a Bachelor's Degree of Natural Science in Zoology. I moved to Iowa and had the pleasure of working at the Knoxville Veterinary clinic as a Vet Assistant. I then moved to England in 2003 and lived there for 10 years. While there I had another fantastic 4 years at the Feldon Veterinary Centre. Here I took several animal training and behaviour classes and taught Puppy Socialization and Obedience courses. In 2013 we moved to the U.S. and I have helped owners on a one to one basis train their dogs. In 2018 I enrolled in the Absolute Dogs Pro Trainer Dog Training Course and became a certified concept trainer. I have learned a vast array of games to help teach important concepts such as Optimism, Focus and Confidence to get the desired behaviors from your dog and can’t wait to share my knowledge with my clients. In 2020 the pandemic hit everyone and our family found it’s way back to England. Here I continued part time dog training but also had the pleasure of working for one of Europe’s leading Veterinary hospitals Willows Veterinary Centre and Referrals. Working alongside the staff of 250 I learned about the amazing capabilities a hospital can provide to critically sick and injured pets. A new adventure has now presented itself in 2024 and we find ourselves in Miami where I am keen to continue my devotion of helping owners and their pet form unbreakable bonds.
“My husband and I work with a lot of dog rescues so naturally, we end up having quite a few of our own. When we rescued our fifth pup we noticed that there was a need for some help with obedience as our five dogs took on a pack mentality. Truth be told the littlest terrier spiced them up - ha ha. Meri came to our home to help us work on basics commands. With her help she assisted us in activities to work on their hyper reactiveness when guests come in our home or near our home. She taught us tricks for safe walking and how to redirect our pups if there is a stimulus and we want to recapture their attention. Meri was patient, kind and fun! She workd so beautifully with our pups and with hard work to reinforce her teachings we have seen progress! We are grateful to her for helping us with our babies so we can have a calmer and safer home. 10/10 recommend!!” Christine and family with Rusty, Bella, Tucker, Moose and Bailey
